1. Behavioral Activation for Depression and Self Injury
Behavioral Activation (BA) suggests that making plans and goals can help reduce depression. By engaging in activities that are fun and easy we fill time that we might have otherwise used to ruminate or avoid life. Researchers have found that individuals who participate in activities that are enjoyable to them have lower levels of depression and depressive affect.
For more information on how to use Behavioral Activation at home, check out http://www.personal.kent.edu/~dfresco/CBT_Readings/BA_&_MBCT.pdf

This website details exactly what to do for a variety of self-injuries. I suggest learning these techniques now so that if you find yourself in a tough spot, you will know what to do to help yourself, a friend, or a family member.
